Hmm. Having a baby takes 9 (10) months, and mine just happened to arrive in the midst of SEC college football.
This didn't bother me while i was pregnant. i am southern, a 4th generation mississippi child, wanna be Sweet Potato Queen, but hormones worked against me to produce a child born sept 6.
the year kate was born, hurricane Katrina hit the coast just one week before she made her appearance. so no SEC sports were really important at that time. electricity and water were important. life was important. to me, air conditioning and a hospital were important.
pre-katrina, and pre-kate, we held season tickets to the MSU games, tailgated like pros, donning our maroon and white (when it was fashionable), and cheered and cheered. rode to the games with our friends, mourned the losses with our friends. (the seasons took a downfall in 2001, when i transferred there.)
post katrina, and post kate, and post Coach Croom, i'm not as excited.
2006 did not prove to be a good year for my bulldogs, but that's okay-i was too busy celebrating kate living an entire year under my guidance.
so now, i'm getting the (somewhat) hang of the mommy thing-they eat, cry, complain, make faces, but in the end they love you, no matter how much they refuse to obey or eat. i get that now.
but it dawned on me. kate is a threat to SEC football. to some, she's not a threat, merely an intrusion into an important time of year.......see even the guy in the picture can't believe it.
her birthday this year lies on the weekend of the State/Tulane game, which just happens (how convenient) to be played in New Orleans. how could this be!
all i can say is, if the bulldogs do pull in a win at that game, how much sweeter kate's birthday will be.
if they lose, i won't notice. i'll be fixated on her blue eyes and cheering for her.
