i want to be in paris, france right now. i am watching everyone's cheesiest tour guide on tv, samantha brown for the travel channel, and it is amazing. i absolutely loved being in paris. andy and i went right after our wedding, stayed with his brother tim and his wife christa, and we drove from germany to paris for 3 days. i studied french in high school, did very well, and loved it. i hoped to one day be able to use it!
and so we went to paris. ah paris was so wonderful. i loved every ounce of it, every minute. they sleep late there-i was awake before most of the parisians at 10 am, and stores didn't really open until 11 am. i wore andy out. he wanted to rest and stroll, i wanted to take it all in. i didn't care too much for french food, except the french fries. mmm. but the other junk was too weird. we ate at mcdonalds! (they call it mcdo's).
i did find some good pastries there. we had a great hotel with a balcony to the paris streets, and i loved going on it to see what was going on. the wine there was great, and cheaper than water. i never made it to a museum, something i regret, but we did see Versailles, the home of Louis XIV. it was beautiful and way too regal. i was never scared there. even on the subway. the only thing that frustrated me was how long all the meals took. they take forever to eat. i am not used to that , but that is why french women are so thin.
i also found that the more i spoke in french, the more the french tried to impress me with their english. so we had no problems.
i couldn't wait to return, and bought tickets for andy and me for spring 2005....had a great deal. but then suddenly i was pregnant and was too sick for flying. so we lost our tickets but did get a refund on the hotel room. i had even booked a room at the ritz-carlton paris for my friend and me for her birthday (my friend lives in london) but had to cancel that. i was devastated.
but i know that one day i can take kate there! i bet she will love it. i can't wait to go back, speak the language, stroll around. i went in winter but i loved it-it was no colder than it is here.
j'aime paris! and no, i do not mean paris hilton. paris france!
