And.....

I'm engaged! I'm so excited!!!!! If you'd like to know the story, just let me know. It involves a wedding (not ours), a pier on a lake, airbrushed t shirts, and McDonalds. (Good product placement opportunity for McDonalds). I mean, it's always good if McDonald's is incorporated in your engagement story, right?
I could not be happier, God has blessed me so much, and I am still in shock that I have such an awesome guy that will soon be my wonderful husband.
I am living proof that God always intends good for His own, and He always provides better than we think He possibly could. Our plans are not His plans, and that is so good to know.
Kate is very excited about it! Plans are already underway, and our families rejoice with us.
And yesterday I had the opportunity to go home to Brookhaven to catch up with my 4 best friends from childhood/college....it was so good and felt like we hadn't missed a day.
Yay yay yay! Yay!

WHAM

I need to get back into blogging. This, I know. It becomes addicting, though, but it is very therapeudic.
I see I haven't written since last September. That's sad! I will try to do better.
I miss you all, and I lost my bloglines password so I haven't been reading many blogs at all. I can't Facebook at work, either, so I feel like I've stepped back in time. (And no, I don't have Tivo anymore, either. I might as well listen to AM radio programs.)
Take care.

A little something extra

Click here to read Lagniappe in the news. I'm very happy to be the travel agent in above mentioned article. However, I do not think this article was well-written by any means. It left nothing to be desired.

Step outside of your comfort zone. If something is comfortable, it's not worth it. Work hard, push hard, and live life for the One above. If you aren't doing that, you cannot be happy.

Punting Perfection

Mo is a fellow soul that desires deeply to work with those who have nothing to know the fullness of Grace. you can know more about him here. He is good at what he does. Which is marketing and loving people and being honest.

Punting Perfection
By Mo Leverett

I was a punter in high school and college. Nobody likes a punter. The punter only comes on the field when the offense has failed. Punters are most despised by perfectionists - persons who think failure an unacceptable option.

When we consider the men of the Bible - we get a picture of the nature of achievable spirituality. Often they fail. And yet it is wrong to hyper-moralize their failure. Their failures not only open the door for grace, it demonstrates what is non-achievable spirituality - perfection.

I think one of the most unbecoming features of the American evangelical church is the perpetual state of surprise with failure. And while it is good to strive for holiness, even perfection, it is not good what we do to those who naturally fall short of it.

Ironically and sadly the church is no longer a safe place for sinners. An institution who is a recipient of the Kingdom of Heaven precisely because it acknowledged its state of sinfulness, is now in the state of denial about that same spiritual state - as if her sinfulness was a brief episode, a bad moment.

The biggest surprise for the perfectionist will be when the sinners they once judged and condescended to, will be appointed to judge them. Perfectionism is among the greatest of sins, not only because the perfectionist assumes the place of God - but perhaps more poignant than that, they withhold the grace that God so freely offers.

Despite the fact that David, for instance, King David, was a murderer and an adulterer - he was also a man after the heart of God, the author of divinely inspired psalms and the leader of an incomparable army of men. And while he has landed a sacred place in the family tree of Jesus, so that Jesus, the KING of kings is called the Son of David - it is quite uncertain whether or not the American church would receive him, much less defend his right to leadership.

Despite the fact that Elijah brought down fire from heaven and was the greatest of the prophets, he was bedeviled by a single solitary woman, sank into a great depression, wallowed in doubt and self-pity as he was exiled in fear.

The American church tends to worship perfection, therefore its leaders pretend to be so. And as the church perceiving the men of God statuesque in virtue behind their fancy pulpits, it should be known that their wives could pull the chord on the curtain in a moment’s notice, unless they too have fallen prey to the Christian masquerade. Some pastor’s wives are expected to represent a level of spirituality that sweet Mother Mary herself wouldn’t aspire to - no offense intended to my Catholic brothers.

Perhaps we should become more like Paul, also a murderer, and glory in our sinfulness, and wear the title with pride - Chief of Sinners, not because we love our sin, but because we love what our sin has wrought - the precious and limitless supply of grace that flows to us through Christ.

And when one pretends that he is not a sinner, he prohibits the flow of grace. Rather that we cut off our own limbs than to cut off God’s grace.

True men of God are measured not by the sins they’ve avoided in this life, but by their authentic encounters with grace. Fortunately, access to grace is not restricted to those who have achieved perfection, rather to those who have rejected it.

I for one want to be in the fellowship of sinners when they encounter the final dose of God’s grace. Then and only then will we be made perfect. And until that day comes, we will fail, fall short and miss the mark.

Rather than surprised, we should be supportive. For until that final day, we need each other. And we need from each other the identical grace that has been so lavishly offered to us. Then the church will regain her beauty and irresistibility to a lost, dying and sinful world.

So will you join me in realizing that there are times to punt. And while we’re at it, maybe we should give some thought to punting perfection.

Wish List!

My favo store in Jackson, Fresh Ink, with my most favo find-I love these. So if anyone is feeling frisky feel free to brighten my day and send me one! I want one that says Hope or Loved or something interesting.I like thinking I am loved so that would be my favorite one.
Yes, I am soliciting.

lovin the bay

This is why I love living here. This made me cry I was so thankful for it! I actually scheduled our group from Lagniappe to go work-we sent 15 interns and they did a great job.

Here's to a good one

yeah, so i know. no post in a while. just ask if you want to know.
but i did run across a great article today.
54 Things that make a dream guy.
Great title already.
This was written by mothers, so do indulge me with these simple requests.
I can't post all 54 because they were so good...but I will put the highlights. I couldn't have said it better myself.
1. He's good with coming up with nicknames.
2. Doesn't smell like Old Spice
3. Is not afraid to change a diaper.
4. Makes sure you are documented as well as the kids for family posterity.
5. Continues talking to you like a fully functioning, independent human being when he comes home to find you tired and in your pajamas, needing encouragement
6. Packs a great, well-edited weekend bag
7. Knows nothing about "baby weight."
8. knows how to install a car seat.
9. Initiates date night
10. Can understand you need a balance between Hannah Montana, offset by Gnarles Barkley and Radiohead
11. Can run a kitchen. Gives you a Sunday paper and tells you to relax. An hour later appears from the kitchen with a loaf of crusty bread, steak, green beans....
12. Knows how to be in your corner-"How dare she say that" "You did nothing wrong!"
13. Appreciates why you believe in the few extra dollars for good shoes.
14. Still likes to cop a feel
15. Understands that when you want to "make sense" and go back to work after a baby, that there are some metrics that don't line up on the balance sheet. (Emotional metrics)
16. Pays the bills without prompting.
17. Can read through the cryptic messages that women send-"How was your day" means, ask me about my day. "Do you want to order in tonight?" means please don't make me cook, I have a headache.

Desperate times/measures

Here is where I am.
yes, my phone is sleeping in rice right now.
Bring on the healing.

Cellular South-not a friend of mine

DANG i just wrote a good post and somehow it is lost. this is the story of my life. i will keep this brief in case Murphy's Law is after me right now.
Friend came to stay a few days this week. Very good. Lots of fun and laughs.
Work email is down. Can't do any work, basically.
Today my phone won't work. I can't talk but I can receive calls and texts, just can't talk. I can text back.
When I have more patience I can write the entire story.
But if computer is fickle right now I can't chance the time.
So limited email and phone makes me think one thing-I need to relax.
Relax. I am going to try.
Pray for my phone to work. I kind of need that to happen.

In Pictures

Fireworks and Sweet Caroline

Last week had a lot of rainy days and mondays. Well only one monday but it felt like a lot. Thursday was really really rainy, satellite went out. That's God telling me to read. Or get DVDs from the library. I really never sat down and watched one the whole way through. I'm working on Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler but I haven't finished it yet. Very moving. Seriously.
Spent the weekend not being alone which was amazing. My BSL cousin graduated from Bay High on Friday, so I spent the afternoon at her house with all my family, watching her pick out which shoes to wear, and just visiting.
Hung out with my favo hair stylist, hanging out, went to Sounds by the Sea, which is a free symphony concert in Gulfport. Had fun there with Webb Sabin's g/f Brittney, Robin, Holman, and the crew. Holman and I tried to head out before the ending and her car would not crank. Thanks to a cop and his handy little gas can, we were out of there in less than 5. Straight to the gas station.
I spent Sunday at church for a very long time, talking, meeting new friends, laughing and laughing. Afterwards did some more family stuff-some tastylicious home cooking in Long Beach, some good family stories, being amazed at how much history there is in my family. My grandmother was one of 14, so we have quite a large family. I asked my grandmother's sister about my grandmother, and she said, "Oh, she was bad! She got in a lot of trouble!" I thought that was funny. She said that she was an amazing nurse. I asked her about my great grandparents, and she said they were two of the finest people that ever lived in this country. I thought that was a great testimony to good parenting. What an amazing compliment.
Later on to party at Susans, with some karaoke, too much for me, because it doesn't take much to get me to karaoke, as I have probably previously mentioned on here....but apparently it doesn't take a lot for Ben Niemitz to do so, either, so we had a fabulous time. Did some Neil Diamond, Queen, you name it. It was a group effort, thankfully.
Today my little bear came home. She was precious and precocious and kissable. She was so happy to be in her house, in her bed. She makes me sparkle.
Theresa will be here tomorrow for a few days. She always makes me laugh and feel good. We need more Theresas in the world.
Oh and yes, I did some hellacious runking. Hot hot hot but good to run. Am trying to figure out how to do it effectively with a little bear, but haven't figured that out yet. Any suggestions are welcome.
Ugly Betty season finale--good, she better wake up in Italy, that's all I have to say. Still working on Grey's.

Vegas and Chicken Sandwiches

Thanks to Robin's not so subtle encouragement, which I needed, I know it's time to blog. Overdue. I'm trying to think back to my last post so that none of you miss a minute.
My television opinions (most were season finales)
1. Office: Was boring at parts, if i may say that, but good ending!!!! I can't believe Jim didn't propose.
2. Desperate Housewives was horrible. It was the most violent thing I've seen in a while. It was like a war or something.
3. I am digging Gio and Ugly Betty. Can she not see how much cooler Gio is????
4. Still sleeping through Grey's.
5. No matter who wins on Idol tonight I still like David Cook better. He's more marketable in the Idol sphere.

I want to use the word juxtapose more.

The Lagniappe Interns arrived this past Sunday. We had a big to-do at Benigno's and it was so much fun. My favorite discussion was the one I had with Davis and little Jean about making up new words. Benigno's can fry anything. Among the samples were eggplant fries, fried pickles *mmm*, crab balls and alligator balls (rolled up meat fried like hushpuppies) and sweet potato fries.
of course the seafood was fried too. but it's the original place for seafood here. you need some pepto but then you'll be alright.

I took Kate to Jackson on Saturday so that she could get ready for her big trip to New York for her aunt's wedding. Please pray for her safety and that she will be well taken care of.
She is such a bear. When I call to talk to her, she always says "Mommy I want to hold you." Melt. I missed her unbearably by day number 2, and now I'm on day 4. I can't wait to see her again!

Runking has been comme ci, comme ca (french for so so). Yesterday was 97 degrees so it was hot but somehow i still did it. I have no excuse not to go this week since I am on Kate vacation. I tried going to the beach yesterday but they were working on the road at my beach, so it was not relaxing.

I tried to cook Robin's stir fry creation with rice and chicken last night, but mine did not taste as good as hers. It was alright. Nothing to take a picture of for the blog.

I have seen a few movies lately-Happens/Vegas Stays/Vegas. It was cute, I laughed, probably wouldn't watch it again. But it was pretty funny. I would like to go to Vegas one day, but it will need to be a spur of the moment thing. I don't want to plan that one out. I think that defeats the purpose.
88 minutes-I thought it was suspenseful. I was anxious during the whole thing.

Just FYI Pam and Darrylfrom the Office are presbyterian. Admittedly!

I joined Lagniappe on Mother's Day as an associate member. I will move my full membership in a few months hopefully.
My mind is not very creative right this second, so when I think of more things to blog, you'll be the first to know.

I can't help but post this article. Landon found it first but I thought it was very interesting. Chickfila v. McDonalds Chicken Sandwich.

14 May 2008

and how amazing would it be if we really lived like Friends. They were awesome. We could only hope for such good friends. What a good life.
I want some Friends friends.
Auditions held tomorrow.

13 May 2008

why is grey's anatomy boring my face off?
and i just want to note that yesterday's challenges included 3 leaky diapers on the floor. not a good challenge for me.
but when she laughs, it's contagious.
so here's to pee in the potty, and smiles for us both.
and at night, i get the best, tightest hugs, from a girl that does not want to let go. she wants to hold my face by hers, for affirmation and love and fulfillment. it is an amazing moment when someone hugs you so tightly that you don't want to let go and you just want to love back.
that is crazy love. even in the van morrison sense. it's amazing.

trials and successes

Monday. May 12. A day in the trenches.
Wake up. Fix breakfast. Entertain Kate with our educational television (thank you PBS. Please keep supporting that.)
Kate manages to stop bathing her stuffed animals in the potty. She spent some time rearranging some toys but nothing to be dismayed about.
I worked in the morning, she did a fabulous job of supporting me, bringing me coffee as needed, etc. Not really but we did have a good morning.
I had to do lots of phone calls and emails and she is such a good girl.
She took a nap, and I had somewhat of a rest. I caught up on email and work.
We spent the afternoon in the backyard, covered in sunsreen and love bugs. They were quite pesty but we had fun nonetheless.
Friends, if you want to work on your tan, do not do so without sunscreen. I have never been a bigger believer in sunscreen than at this present moment. It works and it saves lives. Much like David Hasslehoff.
We ate some push ups in the backyard. My neighbor loves those so she produced 5 for all of us. We had an in-depth convo regarding the original Scooby Doo, and I was so thankful to speak to someone who knows the REAL Shaggy, Velma, and the gang.
We take the little things for granted.
I made a fabulous mother's day dish. Baked penne pasta, alfredo sauce, mushrooms, and parmesan and chicken. I made it up and I loved it.
I'm almost ready to challenge Paula Deen with that one.
Watched the Bachelor last night. He is so stupid. He totally picked the wrong girl. Good luck with that!!!!
Am enjoying friends, sunshine, work, and air conditioner.
I went to presbytery today with some work friends. We left at 6 am. Yes, I was on time surprisingly!!!! It was so refreshing to spend the day with adults and engage in deep conversation-my soul longs for that.
We hit Starbucks on the way home, and it was mildy disappointing. I am still working on finding a favo drink for myself from the Bucks.
I read an advanced copy of a book that is going to be released in Sept 2008. I can't wait. It's called Sin Boldly. I will let you know when it comes out-an amazing author with an eye for what's true and important.
Soon I want to share with you my theory on runners here in the Bay. As well as Starbucks customers.
I am such a metathinker that these types of theories go through my head. I haven't been blogging faithfully lately....am trying to do better. Please forgive.
Kate and I are magical together. She hugs my neck, hates to let go. She is a cuddle girl all the way and she is so precious. I wish you all had a Kate in your lives.
Hmm. I am sighing about God's goodness to me this day. He never fails. He always protects. He is amazing.

Kateisms

Tonight Kate said-I have no idea where she heard this unless she heard me talking to Kim Larroux today-"Mommy i want to watch american idol."
So I let her stay up and she loved it.
Sorry, Andy.
